The truth about your diet.
The standard American diet is lacking the majority of these essential nutrients like omega three fatty acids, magnesium, pantothenic acid, folate, biotin, B6, selenium, zinc, vitamin K, Vitamin A, Vitamin E, and Vitamin C. To make matters worse, conventional American foods are full of ingredients that get incorporated into our body's tissues and exert detrimental effects, like partially hydrogenated oils. The typical American diet has gotten so bad that it has been labeled the number one public health threat by the American Journal of Preventative Medicine. Five to seven of the top ten leading causes of death in the U.S. --heart disease, cancer, stroke and diabetes, kidney disease, --are directly related to way we eat. Diet is also implicated in scores of other conditions like arthritis, Alzheimer's disease, poor immune function, IBS, Migraines, morning sickness, PMS, depression, and more.
Investing in your health is more important now than ever before. Indeed, chronic disease accounts for 85 percent of our nation's healthcare bill, approximately 1.2 trillion dollars a year. Considering the rising cost of health care coupled with the decrease in coverage for many, prevention seems like the only answer.
A sound diet is a key component of any health promoting and disease preventing program. It is also a key component for anyone who wants to boost energy levels and brain function, improve his/her appearance, sense of well being and quality of life. Unfortunately, the media is full of conflicting advice. This coupled with the genetic influence on our needs, knowing just what and how to eat isn't as simple as it seems.
